Where is Blanchard Mountain?

Blanchard Mountain is part of the Chuckanut Mountain range. Many people think it is Chuckanut Mountain as it rises above Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County Washington.

So where is it exactly? Well if you live in Burlington, Mount Vernon, Bow, Samish Island, Guemes Island, Sinclair Island, Anacortes, La Conner, or Conway you see it almost everyday.

Blanchard Mountain is located at the south end of the Chuckanut Range. It rises above Chuckanut Drive above the Chuckanut Manor, Oyster Bar, and Oyster Creek restaurants and abuts Larabee State Park.

We think of it as the sentinel of  northwest Skagit county. "Nowhere in the middle of everything." Its so close yet its a wondrous escape from the hustle and bustle and its right in our back yard!

Hikers, horse riders, mountain bikers, trail joggers, hang/para-gliders and wilderness lovers visit Blanchard Mountains trails almost every day. (50,000 people a year)

Blanchard Mountains original forest was logged at the end of the 1800's. There are pockets of oldgrowth on the mountain and over 2500 acres of the 4800 acre mountain is a naturally regenerated forest and is not a monoculture "tree farm". The mountain resembles a young (80-100 year old) native forest. When you are on Blanchard Mountain you will see red cedar, Douglas fir, hemlock, grand fir, sitka spruce, pacific yew and all the rest of the  trees and plant life you would expect to see in a native forest. If Blanchard Mountain is preserved and made in to a park we can expect it to some day resemble the remnant oldgrowth forest that we see in Deception Pass State park.
